If you're all tired of having the same thing everyday - burgers, spag, or plain-rice and- dish meal, Makansutra is one place to go. It's unique ambience overlooking Manila Bay and the delicious aroma of spices would really make you salivate for Asian food. My top favorites are Roti Prata, Char Kway Teo and hakaw. Customers can even watch how their orders are being prepared right in front of them. What's even more unique with the experience is the added attraction of the food museum showcasing different displays about Asian food culture. The experience really is just so amazing.

Main problem and difficulty of opening a foreign food joint here in the philippines hinge on a simple fact: Chefs must be trained well and on the food they serve long before they start to serve the public.

Notation here about how Makansutra failed to satisfy a customer is highlighted in his blog.....all-Pinoy chef crew. None of the 38 pinoy crew "had ever been to nor eaten anything from Singapore and Malaysia.

Makansutra is a south east asian restaurant that wants to give us foodies in Manila their unique take on hawker food ala Singapore. (You know the place in sing, where it’s like an open air thingie wherein you point at what you want and they cook it for you? Think Ihaw-ihaw but Satay instead of Adidas..har har!) [...] How did the food fare? Some were notable hits including that yummy omellete thing with the really tender fish, suprisingly loved the simple inihaw na bangus, and that egg noodle dish reminiscent of pad thai without the tamarind and much sweetness.

At around quarter to 8, GMA left the premises, and we proceeded to go up and have our dinner at Makansutra. I liked practically everything I tasted, although the White Chicken would probably not be something I'd eat often. The Roti Kaya is highly reccommended, as well as the hakkao (shrimp lover alert!). Their Seafood marinara was a bit too watery, but I don't think it was very bad. Not as oily as in the gourmet restaurants.

All in all, it was a nice experience.

I was super excited to try Makansutra Asian Food Village at the 2nd Floor of Manila Ocean Park. Ever since our family's Singapore food trip [...] I had very high expectations because the food stall is owned and managed by KF Seetoh, the author and founder of the Singapore food bible - Makansutra. I must admit OAP was inspired by it. I was disappointed. First, I failed to meet KF Seetoh (by a few days) and the Singapore Chefs when they opened Makansutra. Second, the food tasted like another Pinoy version of Makan dishes because of the all-Pinoy chef crew. None of the 38 pinoy crew "had ever been to nor eaten anything from Singapore and Malaysia."

Having said that, the Makansutra Asian Food Village is worth a try because 7 out of my Top 10 Makan Favorites are available and the hawker-style food court concept is something unique in Manila.
