Crashed Flying Pig

Visited The Flying Pig last Saturday (Dec. 4, 2010) and upon the recommendation of one of their servers, tried their Queen Platter - its an assortment of ribs - baby back (unfortunately it was out of stock and they just had to add some more of the ribs, more bones, I guess, to compensate) and spare ribs, 1/4 chicken and two sausages and two sides. We chose the mashed potatoes with spinach and the basmati bacon fried rice. The sides were delicious and the sausages too but the grilled meat where on the sweet side that we had to ask for vinegar to cut the sweetness. More importantly, the pork dishes WERE NOT TENDER AT ALL, IT WAS HARD AND DRY. We were hoping for a fall-off-the bone tenderness and we were disappointed big time. The Flying Pig crashed miserably in our books.

We also ordered the Niki Fonfons salad, to bring some veggies to the table. Its assorted greens with balsamic vinaigrette dressing and pathetic looking breaded calamari, you had to ask what is it you're eating otherwise you won't know its squid. The sad thing is that it's not cheap. The platter is P 895, and the salad is P355.

I had to ask if there's any Citi Bank promotion as I noticed some tent cards in some of the tables outside and our server said yes if your bill is over P1000 you'll get a free gambas al jillo. And voila, our gambas came. It was delicious I must say. But its too measly, three small pieces of shrimp! Oh well. Maybe that's their agreement with Citi Bank.

The garlic bread is ok too.

But the price is not. For two dishes, with the main entree barely eaten, paying for P 1361.61 is a rip-off. Wouldn't recommend it to family or friends.

Me and my wife went to Flying Pig to celebrate our 3rd year anniversary. We ordered the All Meat Paella and Half Slab baby back ribs. We thought it would take long for our orders to be cooked but lo and behold, our orders came in less than 30 mins. I was expecting to wait a little longer. The Paella was great! The Baby back ribs were out of this world. We were given complementary iced tea.

The only thing that I think they should do is have the manager or chef ask the customers if the food was ok or maybe areas for improvement.

Nice interior but the full slab of lamb ribs for 535.00 pesos was just disappointing 'coz it was full of BONES and literally no meat at all.

It was so skinny that we had to complain about it. The waiter just said, "Sir ganyan talaga yan kasi lamb. (It's really like that coz it's lamb.) What a lame excuse. I've been eating lamb ribs before she was even born and I can truly say this was the skinniest lamb ribs I've ever had. Anyway, the whole excuse made my dining experience even worse.

I will not be a repeat customer of this establishment and will not recommend this to anyone else and I hope people reading this can learn a lesson from my experience.

It was a pre mother's day celebration / double date last saturday when we decided to eat our dinner at flying pig... but we were seated in their sis resto blue fish. The timing was perfect. we were actually surprised that they have cooked our orders well for just a short span of time... we're please with the flavor of our food. we ordered full slab of baby back ribs with side dish of spinach mashed potatoes which complimented the dish. we also enjoyed the sea bass specialty of blue fish and had paella and their signature red ice tea... it was a break from all the fast food stuff. fine dining but it was not that expensive considering the tasteful dishes served hot and fast. I would love to win a gift certificate from this restaurant. congratulations and we will definitely be back.

First time with my family (& a family friend) after my daughter's graduation was a total disaster. After all the reviews I read and heard, we decided to go there for a relaxing dinner. My "omelet" dish took more than an hour to be served (after about 5 follow-ups). When I decided to cancel my order (thank, God...all my companions were able to eat even with the tense situation), no apology or explanation was given to us. It seems like a normal thing for the restaurant, I guess.

We went in just because the place looked good (and we had a baby stroller so it was convenient) but the staff was too busy to seat us and get our orders. we had to ask for a menu twice. The place was full. The good part was we can order food from the Blufish resto as well. The baby back ribs we ordered from the flying pig was pretty dry. The flavor did not seep into the meat. we asked for extra sauce they gave us a small amount considering we ordered the half slab. I will be thinking twice about going back, specially if i'm craving for baby back ribs which according to them was their specialty.

We tried the lager braised pig cheeks, which is beer braised kurobota pork cheeks (imported from Japan ) served with salted pork and leek risotto. It almost has the texture of tongue, tender but not “melt in your mouth.” Other interesting items on the menu under the heading “Swine Dining” include stuffed crispy knuckles, the flying meatloaf, and pulled pork lasagna. The playful titles given to the dishes echo the restaurant’s overall fun and whimsical concept, starting with its name, The Flying Pig.

I was hooked by the French-American Carnivores marketing tagline of The Flying Pig. Actually, it is more of a Pinoy meat haven. Overall, this tandem restaurant concept is quite interesting. You've got to try it when you are in Eastwood Mall. Let me know what you think.

We paid around P600 each for the above meal, making this one of the cheaper dinners we've had recently. Quite a good value considering how full we were after dinner, but do note that we skipped dessert here.
